90 hectare fire at Pelican Point “held”: BRFA

Fire crews working on the wildfire near Pelican Point at Moose Lake say the fire is now being held. In an update issued Tuesday morning, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority says personnel worked through the night creating fire guards to the north and south of the blaze near Range Road 474 and Highway 660.

With the guards in place, water bombers will continue to douse the fire this afternoon. Fire crews will then work to try to extinguish the flames on foot.

BRFA Regional Fire chief Jay Melvin says the fire is about 90 hectares or 220 acres in size. He asks that people continue to avoid the area and let crews work.

Range Road 474 continues to be closed as of this update.
