Alberta phone line will help victims of sexual violence

The Dragonfly Centre is applauding a new tool in the fight against sexual violence. The centre joined other groups on Monday to celebrate the launch of the new talk-text-chat line called “Alberta One Line”. The new service allows victims of abuse to call and receive support and information right over the phone.

Executive Director for the Dragonfly Centre Cheryl Bujold says her organization has seen steady growth in the number of people it has helped in five years.

“Dragonfly Centre experienced a 900% increase in the number of clients served this year since 2015. This dramatic demand for services shows that individuals in our communities are feeling comfortable to come forward and access supports.”

The line was officially launched in the province at 11 AM Monday morning. The Dragonfly Centre hosted a launch party at the Centennial Centre in Bonnyville to celebrate. Bujold says the new option is another tool to help the Lakeland.

The number for the line is 1-866-403-8000. More information on the line is at its official website.
