Caterpillars are going to be back: Cold Lake

A sure sign of spring in the Lakeland will be back once more. The City of Cold Lake put out a warning Wednesday that Tent Caterpillars are due to make their return in the area soon. Officials say the creepy-crawlers are at their peak in a seven-year cycle.

Residents are urged to have a look around their property for tent caterpillar eggs. They can be pruned off trees and thrown in the garbage. City officials also say to be on the lookout for Black Knot fungus on trees. If the fungus is spotted the limb it’s attached to will have to come off.

Cold Lake will provide a burning bin at the waste transfer station for black knot-infected material.
