Spring moisture needed as fire restrictions pop up in the Lakeland

A little spring snow and moisture doesn’t mean that conditions aren’t ripe for wildfire, says one Lakeland fire department. On Sunday a Facebook post was made on behalf the of the Iron River Fire Department reminding residents that conditions still remain fairly dry in the area. They say all sources of fire, especially cigarette butts, have to be extinguished properly and not thrown out car windows.

The post says local fire departments have been called out for wildfires more in the last three weeks than in the last three years. Smoky Lake County announced Monday that a fire restriction would be put in place due to dry conditions.

Residents can stay up to date on fire bans in the province by checking in with the Alberta Fire Ban website.
