Mounties say two men are now in custody after a chase near Frog Lake. Police say on April 2nd they were tracking down a pair of men wanted on previous charges. That’s when they spotted one of the men driving a car stolen during a robbery in Frog lake a few days earlier. A brief chase featuring the RCMP helicopter led mounties to the second wanted man in a different stolen vehicle.
Mounties chased the two suspects around the area. They were able to get one vehicle stopped in a field and arrested the driver. The other vehicle later ran over a spike strip and came to a stop at a residence just off Highway 897. Mounties say they caught the second driver despite the efforts of a woman at the home who tried to stop police.
36-year-old Albert Smith of Frog Lake is now facing charges including robbery as well as flight from police. The 17-year-old driver of the second vehicle faces a slew of charges related to other incidents in Elk Point and Frog Lake. Both are staying in police custody.
The 34-year-old woman who tried to stop mounties faces charges including obstructing a police officer. She’ll see St. Paul court on May 23rd.
Mounties say they were able to recover three stolen vehicles in total. They were taken from Myrnam, Lloydminster and Frog Lake.
