Notley calls April election

Premier Rachel Notley has called an election in the province for April 16th. The announcement came Tuesday morning and just a day after the throne speech to begin the spring 2019 sitting in the Alberta Legislature.

The 2019 election will be the first for the new riding of Bonnyville – Cold Lake – St. Paul. Current Lac La Biche – St. Paul-Two Hills MLA Dave Hanson will be running as the UCP candidate. Former Mayor of St. Paul Glenn Andersen is also in the running, representing the Alberta Party. Cold Lake teacher Kari Whan announced her candidacy at the end of January for the incumbent NDPs.

Albertans have been waiting for the announcement of an election since February 1st. The election had to be held under law by May 31st.
