Pontiacs hunt for AJHL championship starts tonight

The Bonnyville Pontiacs hunt for an AJHL Championship has begun. The team is facing the Whitecourt Wolverines in the first round of the Interpipeline AJHL Playoffs. Bonnyville is coming off a franchise-record 41 win season that saw the club finish second in the AJHL North Division, four points behind the Sherwood Park Crusaders.

In the 2018-2019 regular season, the Pontiacs won all six of their match-ups against the Wolverines. Forward Marc-Antoine Benoit was the leading Pontiac offensive threat in those games, scoring four goals and adding seven assists over the season series.

The Pontiacs have home ice advantage in the five-game series due to finishing higher in the standings. The action starts Thursday with game one at 7:30 pm at the RJ Lalonde Arena. Game two is also in Bonnyville on Friday. The series will then shift to Whitecourt for games three and four.
