2015 Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races – Saskatoon, SK
It was a capacity crowd Saturday night in Saskatoon as night 3 of the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races in memory of Ashley Richards was run under hot weather and perfect racetrack conditions at Marquis Downs on Prairieland Park. When the dust finally settled, it was reigning Ponoka and Calgary Stampede champion Kurt Bensmiller who emerged with the fast run of the night with a 1:17.24.
From barrel number one in the ninth and final heat, Bensmiller, driving the Tsuu T’ina Nation outfit, was the day money winner, 19 one-hundredths of a second faster than 3-time World Champion Jerry Bremner. Gary Gorst was third on the night, Obrey Motowylo was fourth and Kelly Sutherland rounded out the top five times on the night.
With one run to go in the championship, Saskatoon track record holder Logan Gorst, driving the BCDR Fleet Truck & Trailer Mechanical outfit now leads the overall aggregate standings with a 3-day total of 3:52.89. That puts him just 15 one-hundredths of a second ahead of day 1 winner Mark Sutherland, with Kurt Bensmiller, Layne MacGillivray and day 2 leader Kirk Sutherland in close pursuit. Only 87 one-hundredths of a second separate the top five wagons. The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday’s run will be declared the champion of the 2015 Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races in Memory of Ashley Richards.
The final performance of the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races from Prairieland Park in Saskatoon can be heard live on Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2015 at 4:00pm Eastern, 3:00pm Central, and 2:00pm Mountain time on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 80 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville.
