Bonnyville mounties arrest two after break-in, chase

Bonnyville mounties say a break and enter and chase has led to two people arrested and facing assault charges. Police say late in the evening on February 27th they were called to a business on the north side of town that was being broken into. The owner of the business arrived before police could and was hit by the fleeing U-Haul truck the suspects were using. Police are saying he wasn’t seriously hurt.

The truck then made its way west down Highway 28. Mounties say the truck stopped near Glendon and reversed into a police cruiser. At that point, police say a passenger in the truck tried to take off on foot. The passenger was arrested but the driver of the truck fled again.

Eventually, the truck hit the ditch near St. Lina. Mounties including a police dog tracked down the driver and arrested him.

The RCMP says 32-year-old Christian Lee Bubar and 26-year-old Kaylin Desmarais now face charges including break and enter and assault with a weapon. Bubar has been remanded into custody and will be in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 5th. Desmarais was released after a hearing. She’s due in court on March 26th.
