Mark Sutherland Sets a New Track Record

2015 Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races  – Saskatoon, SK

It was a successful opening night at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for the third running of the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races. The event is dedicated to the memory of Ashley Richards, who was accidentally killed while working with a road crew in 2012. It was a warm Thursday night under a variably cloudy skies with excellent racetrack conditions. When opening night wrapped up, it was Mark Sutherland who established a new track record of 1:16.55.

 

From barrel number one in the second heat, Sutherland, driving the Mark Sutherland Invitational Charity Poker Tournament outfit, was the day money winner by 31 one-hundredths of a second faster over Layne MacGillivray who settled for second place on the night. Defending Saskatoon champion Kirk Sutherland was third, followed by Chanse Vigen and “the Hound,” Codey MCCurrach. Sutherland’s track record time beat the previous track record of 1:16.81 set by John Walters back in 2013 by 26 one-hundredths of a second.

 

The driver posting the best 4-day aggregate time after Sunday’s run will be declared the champion of the 2015 Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races in Memory of Ashley Richards.

Night 2 of the Saskatoon World Chuckwagon Races can be heard live on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 9:00pm Eastern,8:00pm Central, and 7:000pm Mountain time on Rural Radio on SiriusXM Channel 80 or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville.
