Janvier piece sets record in Edmonton
The acrylic on linen painting, entitled "Wandering Child", was painted by Janvier in 1981 - Lando Art Auctions
A legendary Lakeland artist is celebrating a record-setting sale of his work. Cold Lake First Nations artist Alex Janvier’s 1981 piece “Wandering Child” was sold on Sunday in an Edmonton art auction for a record $35,400. The piece was expected to fetch around $6,000 to $8,000 by Lando Art Auctions, the company who hosted the sale.
Janvier is considered a master in the Indigenous Art circle in Canada. He’s a member of the “Indian Group of Seven”, a group of aboriginal artists considered pioneers. Their work was displayed at an exhibit in Portage College last year.
The winning bid for the piece was made by a private collector out of British Columbia
