Break-in released crude effluent: Vermilion mounties

Vermilion mounties are investigating after a break-in at an oilfield site ended up causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages. Mounties say on February 15th at around 9 PM a suspect entered the site at Highway 881 and Range Road 91. The suspect was trying to steal copper wire from the site when they caused electrical wiring damage to the existing wiring. The damage ended up releasing crude oil effluent at the site, which was contained by environmental precautions built into the area.

Police pegged the total damage at around $300,000. Witnesses around the area say the intruder was driving an older blue four-door Dodge truck. The RCMP is asking anyone with information to come forward and call 780-853-4441. Tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
