A celebration of women in the Lakeland is set to go on March 8th. The seventh annual Cold Lake Women of Influence Awards Gala will highlight the achievements of women in the community. Committee member Audrey McFarlane says the idea for the awards show started out as a way to celebrate March 8th.
“It started with a group of women in Cold Lake that wanted to do something around International Women’s Day. To celebrate that day and to recognize the amazing contributions that women make in our area.”
Women from around the Lakeland are eligible for awards ranging from arts and cultural achievements to community wellness and science and technology. McFarlane says this year nominations were rolling in.
“This year we had over 100 nominations, which is just amazing. Normally we have between 30 and 40.”
Awards will be handed out on March 8th at the Energy Centre in Cold Lake. The night will feature cocktails, networking and discussion from three keynote speakers. Tickets are $25 each. They can be found at the Lakeland centre for FASD in Cold Lake.
