Pontiacs Thorne named to All-Academic team

A Bonnyville hockey player is showing his talents on the ice and off it. 19-year-old Bonnyville Pontiacs Defenceman Lucas Thorne has potted 15 goals and 35 points so far this season. On Monday Thorne was named to the Inter-Pipeline Alberta Junior Hockey League All-Academic Team.

The team is made up of AJHL players who are scoring high marks in their high school or post-secondary studies. The selection means Thorne could receive a $1,500 scholarship from Inter-Pipeline to help pay for his schooling.

“We are proud to support the dreams and goals of these young athletes,” says Chris Bayle, President & CEO of Inter Pipeline. “Being able to recognize their dedication to athletic excellence and academic achievement, both on and off the ice, is a privilege.”

The Bonnyville Pontiacs are currently in first place in the AJHL North.
