Hall of Fame looking for new batch of inductees

A way of recognizing Cold Lake residents is back and looking for more great stories. The Cold Lake Hall of Fame started in 2017 as a way to showcase locals who have made an impact in the community. Mayor Craig Copeland says he enjoys seeing the program gain support.

“I think it’s good to recognize people. I don’t think we do enough of it in our community. This is an idea that came from the rec and culture board that we have.”

Last year’s inductees included Cold Lake baseball icon Ivan Krook and world-renowned artist Alex Janvier. Inductees this year will be selected from the nominations by the Recreation and Culture Committee and approved by City Council.

The hall is still searching for a home. Council has suggested the Energy Centre feature the displays. Copeland says its all a matter of waiting on renovations inside the building.

“Those that have been over [to the Energy Centre] know that there are several hallways that have a lot of blank walls right now. We want to take our time and eventually do it right.”

The induction ceremony is expected to take place in November at the Energy Centre. The deadline for nominations is set for May 1st. Information on the hall is available on the Cold Lake official website.
