Whan announced as NDP candidate in 2019 election

The Alberta NDP has their candidate for Bonnyville – Cold Lake – St. Paul. Kari Whan will be running in the 2019 provincial election for the current party in power. Whan is an elementary school teacher in Cold Lake who came to the Lakeland 16 years ago. She says her decision to run this year was a simple one.

“It was a clear choice. The NDP has been fighting for us. I’ve lived in Alberta my whole life. I know the things Albertans want and, more specifically, our needs up here.”

Current United Conservative Party Lac La Biche – St. Paul-Two Hills MLA Dave Hanson and former Mayor of St. Paul and current Alberta Party candidate Glenn Andersen are also in the running for the newly-created riding. This is Whan’s first kick at politics but she says she’s made a connection with the area.

“I’ve met hundreds of families and made connections with hundreds of families. I know what the issues are and I know what we need to work for, for the people in these communities.”

Whan calls the 2019 vote “very important”.

“I think it’s a clear choice. We don’t want the cuts that the UCP have been talking about.”
