Sidewalks need some attention: Bonnyville council

The Town of Bonnyville will be looking into sidewalks after a discussion in town council. Councillor Chad Colbourne raised the issue of the lack of sidewalks on 50th Avenue from the Centennial Centre to the 7-11 gas station at 37th Street. He says he’s heard from residents that no sidewalk is making things unsafe.

“I just think we need to start looking at what we’re going to do to get access to the C2. Especially with our new direction with the C2, it being the hub of our community.”

Council tossed around the idea and debated on who would actually fund the around 700 metres of proposed sidewalk. Councillor Brian McEvoy suggested if council was looking at investing in sidewalks they should get a clear picture of the whole town.

“We’re talking a substantial chunk of change to correct mistakes made in some cases 45 years ago. I think we need to look at this as a big strategy and do this publicly.”

Council says a plan will be put in motion to get some information on 50th Avenue as well as other spots deemed trouble for foot traffic. It’s not known if any work will get done or when it may get done at this time.
