Sixties Scoop exhibit hits the Lakeland in February

An exhibit on the Sixties Scoop will make a stop in St.Paul. “Bi-Giwen: Coming Home – Truth Telling from the Sixties Scoop” is a collection of information and testimonials from victims of the program that resettled Indigenous children with mostly non-Indigenous families. The program was used across Canada from the 1950s to the 1980s.

On February 12th the exhibit will be showcased in St. Paul. Blue Quills First Nation College is the tentative host. An announcement of a confirmed venue is expected later on. Other stops for the presentation include Edmonton, Calgary and Fort McMurray. The exhibit is a partnership between the Sixties Scoop Indigenous Society of Alberta and Legacy of Hope Foundation.

Premier Rachel Notley officially apologized for the Sixties Scoop in May of 2018, calling it “…a dark part of Alberta’s history that all Albertans need to be aware of
