The City of Cold Lake says work has begun on its Water Treatment Plant to handle water flowing down to Bonnyville. The city says upgrades including new pump rooms, new chlorine storage and brand new electrical work is just some of what is needed before the regional waterline comes online.
The physical look of the building will also change with the expansion. Mayor Craig Copeland says the plan is to keep it as pleasing to the eye as possible.
“When we realized the building needed to expand its footprint, we really wanted to make sure the design of the building would suit all the other enhancements along the lakeshore. When the first design came in, it was a metal-clad box, so we sent that back to the table.”
“There are a lot of residents in that area who will be staring at this building right next to the lake, so we wanted to make sure it didn’t become an eyesore.”
The work is expected to cost just under $20,000 with the provincial and federal government covering 90 percent of the bill. Residents in Cold Lake should expect no difference in water-quality while the work gets done.
The city says it expects the work to be done by 2020.
