Operation Red Nose looking for help with New Years

Christmas may be over but a safe ride home after a night of partying is still waiting. Operation Red Nose in Cold Lake is celebrating a successful holiday season so far. Cold Lake Victim Services Program Manager Dave Zimmerman says he’s happy with the numbers the program is showing in 2018.

“We’ve done 176 rides in total so far. We’ve had really good results on the volunteer end of things.”

Last year the group totalled 341 rides over the entire holiday season. Zimmerman says the lower number so far might be due to factors like the economy and a loss of provincial grants for advertising.

The program is gearing up for New Year’s Eve. Zimmerman expects his red nose crew to provide for over 60 rides for partiers who are celebrating 2019. He’s still looking for volunteers to help make up teams.

“Ideally, I want about seven or eight teams and right now we only have three or four. So we’re only halfway there.”

He says anyone who is interested in helping out on New Year’s Eve can head over to the Cold Lake detachment and fill out some papers. A ride from Operation Red Nose in Cold Lake can be arranged by calling 780-812-5880 or at their official website.
