New text with 9-1-1 service is unveiled by BRFA

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority says a new service will help those with hearing and speech problems in the event of an emergency. The group says it’s now offering a new text-based 9-1-1 or T9-1-1 service to allow for reporting of emergencies.

To access the service users would need a compatible cell phone that supports the T9-1-1 service. This may require the user to talk with their wireless service provider. A call to 9-1-1 will alert the operator that the phone has the service. If there is no answer to the operators’ questions, text messages will begin to be sent to the phone.

The program is now available in a number of spots around the Lakeland including the Town and MD of Bonnyville. More information on the service is found at the official T9-1-1 website.
