Update: The pilot of the plane that crashed near The Cold Lake Air Weapons Range on May 22nd, has died. The plane was part of an effort to put out a wildfire north of Cold Lake.

On May 22, 2015 at 5:20 pm Cold Lake RCMP were notified of a plane crash that had occurred on the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. The site is remote and investigators attended the site via helicopter. The aircraft in question is operating under contract to Alberta Environment and Sustainable Development (ESRD) and was in the area as part of wild land firefighting operations. There is no word yet on the condition of the pilot or any occupants.
The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will be attending the scene.
