Pursuit involved multiple mounties, four counties

St.Paul mounties say a carjacking has ended with a long pursuit and the arrest of a man. The RCMP says the trouble began on November 26th when they were on patrol after a reported carjacking in town. Mounties spotted the vehicle that had been stolen but it took off. More units joined in the chase on Highway 55 just south of Lac La Biche. The suspect then took off on a pursuit through four different counties.

Eventually mounties were able to throw a spike strip under the tires of the car near Highway 831 and Highway 28 in Smoky Lake County. Police say the suspect was arrested shortly after in a small foot chase. A man suffered minor injuries in the initial carjacking but no one else was hurt during the incident.

A 25-year-old man from Lac La Biche now faces a variety of charges . Police have yet to release his name or specific charges.

“Communication between the different RCMP Detachments and specialized units was crucial in the successful resolution of this incident.” said Cst. Guillaume Wilson.
