Be ready to stop and spread some cheer in Bonnyville

Be prepared for a check stop of a different sort on Saturday. Bonnyville Victim Services volunteers will be back on main street from 12 to 2 pm December 1st for the 2018 Charity Check Stop. The program solicits donations for the local food bank and new, unwrapped toys for Santa’s Elves among others. BVS Program Manager Debbie Windstone says the idea for the program came from an RCMP officer posted to Bonnyville from Sylvan Lake about six years ago.

“It was his suggestion because they had done it down there. So we started and we’ve been going ever since.”

The volunteers are teaming up with local RCMP and emergency service personnel and stopping vehicles in front of the MD office. Windstone says all donations are very gratefully accepted.

“If you have toys, we’ll collect your toys. We’ll collect food, and any cash donations that people may have.”

If you happen to be driving around and don’t have a donation on you, don’t panic. Windstone says they’re accepting offerings after Saturday at the RCMP detachment on 54th ave.
