Fort McMurray RCMP Need Public’s Help in Murder Case

This afternoon the RCMP received the results of an autopsy performed on an adult male from Saturday’s early morning shooting death in Fort McMurray.  Autopsy results from the Medical Examiner in Edmonton conclude that this 35 year old Fort McMurray man’s death was a homicide, and that death was caused by gun shot wound.

Wood Buffalo RCMP, the Serious Crime Unit, General Investigation Section and RCMP Major Crimes Unit – North continue to investigate this matter and are appealing to the public for their assistance in solving this murder.

 (BACKGROUND)

RCMP continue to investigate the discovery, on Saturday May 16th, 2015, of the body of a lifeless adult male with an apparent gunshot wound outside the front entrance of an apartment complex in the Clearwater Crescent area of Fort McMurray.  Wood Buffalo RCMP had responded to a complaint in the area at approximately 3:45 a.m., in which at least one gunshot had been heard near the apartment building. Investigators from Wood Buffalo RCMP, the Serious Crime Unit, General Investigation Section and RCMP Major Crimes Unit – North do not believe this was a random shooting and are seeking the assistance of the public in solving this crime.

 

An autopsy will be performed in Edmonton at the Office of the Medical Examiner on Tuesday, May 19th at 9:00 a.m. Results of that autopsy that can be released will be issued as they become available.  No other new information is being released at this time.  Further releases will be issued, as new developments become known.

On Saturday May 16th, 2015 at approximately 3:45 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a complaint of at least one shot being heard near an apartment building in the Clearwater Crescent area of Fort McMurray. Upon attendance, the RCMP discovered the body of a lifeless adult male outside the front entrance of the apartment complex.  Wood Buffalo RCMP members including the Serious Crime Unit, General Investigation Section and RCMP Major Crimes Unit – North are investigating.

 

Investigation thus far suggests this is not a random shooting and no other persons appear to have been injured. The RCMP is not able to comment at this time regarding a suspect or suspects in this sudden death. The body of the deceased male has been removed to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Edmonton where an autopsy will be performed early in the week of May 18th to determine the exact manner of death.

 

The RCMP does not expect to have more information to release today, but as information becomes available, it will be issued in the form of a media release.
