Cold Lake fighter squadron turns 100

The fighter squadron based at 4 Wing Cold Lake is celebrating a birthday. 401 Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force turned 100 years old on November 20th. The group traces its lineage to the Number 1 Squadron RCAF that was started towards the end of World War 1. The squadron saw action during the Battle of Britain and other campaigns during the Second World War. By the end, it had shot down 30 enemy planes.

Members of the squadron recently took part in a ceremony in Cold Lake honouring its contribution during the battles over British airspace.
