MD takes over Shaw House, Vezeau Beach campground

The MD of Bonnyville is taking over ownership on a popular piece of real estate. MD council has approved the purchase of both the Vezeau Beach campground and Shaw House from the non-profit Lakeland Sports and Recreation Association. MD Reeve Greg Sawchuk says the LSRA decided that the MD should be the main caretaker to brighten its future.

“With our council having a little bit more of a recreation focus, they decided essentially to hand it over to us to run and invest in it.”

The land was sold for a token sum of $1 on the condition of future facility updates being discussed during budget deliberations. Some ideas for improvement include underground work and clean up at the campsite. Sawchuk says the boat launch troubles and dock are also a focus.

“There is a new docking system already proposed for there. That actual dock is going to be coming out and going to Crane Lake.”

Sawchuk says the work is expected to be done by next year.
