An MP from the Lakeland is making waves with a motion to help sufferers of diseases like Multiple Sclerosis. Fort McMurray- Cold Lake MP David Yurdiga had his motion, M-192 passed in the House of Commons. The hope is to change federal laws allowing those that suffer from diseases like MS to stay employed. In a statement, Yurdiga says the motion will allow someone battling the disease a safety net of sorts.
“Canadians living with episodic disabilities face practical and financial challenges securing employment, income and disability supports. They struggle daily in accessing treatments, housing, and moving around in their communities.”
It’s something Yurdiga knows all too well. His wife Kathy was diagnosed with MS in 2015. The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities is expected to start work on policy changes that could help people with MS and other episodic disabilities.
MS is a disease that attacks the central nervous system. Its symptoms include numbness, impaired speech and diminished muscle coordination.
