The fall 2018 sitting in the Alberta legislature will be the last for Scott Cyr. The Bonnyville-Cold Lake MLA announced earlier in the year he won’t be on the ballot for the 2019 provincial election. Cyr says although this will be his last hurrah in the legislature it doesn’t mean he’s slowing down.
“I look forward to fighting for my local constituency. Just because I’m looking to step down does not mean my fight is any less than it was in 2015.”
One fight Cyr is bringing to the legislature is the case of Mrs. Zoe Bleau. The Bonnyville senior says she’s not being allowed into a local seniors lodge based on a scoring system using factors like income.
“I’ve had enough residents of Bonnyville specifically say ‘It’s not fair’. They’re being more or less alienated just because of the fact that they have a pension.”
Cyr says rural crime, ambulance availability as well as the Trans-Mountain Pipeline project will be a focus for him as he finishes off his days. An election is expected to be held in Alberta by May of 2019. Dave Hanson will become the United Conservative candidate for the new riding of Bonnyville- Cold Lake- St. Paul.
