Buchanan “happy to be back”: Cold Lake RCMP

The new boss of the Cold Lake RCMP detachment is settling in well to his “new-old” office. Staff Sergeant Scott Buchanan started his first day of work as detachment commander on October 29th. He is taking over for Staff Sergeant Jeremie Landry, who accepted a position with the Eastern District in St. Paul.

Buchanan is no stranger to the job. He previously served as commander before leaving in 2015. This will be his third time at Cold Lake detachment.

“When I left Cold Lake, I went to work in St. Paul with the Eastern Alberta District and then I moved to (K Divison) headquarters in Edmonton.”

The Meath Park, Saskatchewan native is happily married with two grown children. He says he has a variety of reasons to enjoy the community.

“Staffing said ‘Pick where you want to go and we’ll try to get you there.’ So, I did a bunch of research and travelled around. At that time I picked Cold Lake to come to. It was because of the amenities and the work as well as the proximity to Saskatchewan.”

Buchanan figures this posting in Cold Lake will be his last stop in his RCMP career.
