2018 Operation Red Nose the last for CLVS

This year’s Operation Red Nose will be the last hosted by Cold Lake Victim Services. The non-profit group has been the organizer of the holiday designated driver program for the past seven years. The group is hoping a new organization in Cold Lake wants to step up and take the reigns.

Program Manager with Victim Services David Zimmerman says his group is proud of the work that it has done and feels like it’s time to hand it off.

“Last year we had 341 rides. That’s the most we’ve ever had before. It’s a big operation but it’s manageable for someone who can be focused on it.”

Operation Red Nose provides a free designated driver service to motorists who have had a drink or do not feel fit to drive their vehicles. The services are offered nine nights over the holiday season. The first rides will start on November 30th

Zimmerman says a group interested in taking over the program will get some hands-on training this year.

“Cold Lake Victim Services is more than willing to work as a mentor with any other agency this year. They can then take over for our chapter in 2019.”

Anyone interested in volunteering with Operation Red Nose can find more information at their official website.
