Suspect, mountie hurt in crash

Police in St. Paul say one man now faces charges after a chase and crash in a car originally stolen in Edmonton. Mounties say on October 24th they spotted a stolen vehicle inside of town with three occupants. As police arrested two women, the male driver took off hitting a police cruiser in the process.

A short chase in rural St. Paul county ended when the suspect hit another police vehicle. Mounties are saying an RCMP officer was hurt during the second crash and was taken to hospital and later released. The suspect also suffered what police are calling “serious non-life threatening” injuries and was also taken to hospital.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of what mounties say is cocaine and methamphetamine, a taser and several knives. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Saddle Lake, now faces several charges that include two counts of assault on a police officer with a weapon. He’ll stay in police custody and see St. Paul court on November 1st.

The two female passengers were later released from custody without charges
