Onion Lake family says it wants the truth in 54-year-olds death

An Onion Lake family and community is calling on the RCMP to continue the investigation into the death of 54-year-old Glenn Kelly Waskewitch. Waskewitch’s decapitated body was found in a wooded area of the Onion Lake Cree Nation in August. A Saskatchewan coroner later ruled that Waskewitch had committed suicide and animals had damaged his remains. No autopsy had been performed.

The RCMP has closed the file on the case, calling their investigation “thorough”. Mounties say should new evidence come to light, the case could be re-opened. Family and band members of the Onion Lake Cree Nation held a news conference on October 24th in Saskatoon where they called on the RCMP to reopen the case. A search for the missing skull of Waskaewitch has been ongoing.
