Cold Lake Ice welcome community heroes on October 27th

The hockey game between the Cold Lake Ice and the Wainwright Bisons on October 27th will be a little more special than usual. The Ice are hosting “Community Heroes Appreciation Night”, a chance for the team to say thanks to the military and public safety workers in the community. Head Coach and GM Scott Hood says the idea originally started out as military only but now includes public safety members.

“We’ve got a special community where there’s military involved so we thought let’s just throw it out there and see how we do.”

The night will feature the usual fare of Canadian Tire Chuck a Puck and family-friendly contests running throughout the game. Military members and public safety members with a valid ID will get half-price tickets at the door. The 50/50 draw for the game will start with a $500 pot.

“We’re trying to teach our young men that it’s a little bit more than just showing up and playing hockey.”

Anyone attending the game is asked to bring a teddy bear, which will be donated to Cold Lake victim Services. Puck drop is 7:30 pm at Imperial Oil Place.
