The bounty is back on some animals in the Municipal District of Bonnyville. The wolf and coyote reduction program aims to reduce the number of the predators around livestock in the area. It was started years ago as a way to get rid of the animals without using harmful poisons. Since certain areas in the M.D neighbour a boreal forest, producers were seeing double-digit numbers in cattle lost to the animals.
From October to March, a bounty of $15 per coyote and $75 per wolf is up for grabs to hunters and trappers. The animal carcasses can be submitted to the M.D Ag Service Board office Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:30 to 8:00 am and 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A full animal has to be brought in. Pelts will not count towards the bounty.
Carcasses will be returned to the hunter/trapper to be disposed of. Fur from the animal can be kept. More information can be found by calling the Fish and Wildlife office at 780-826-3142 or on the M.D website.
