The commander of the Cold Lake RCMP detachment is moving on. Staff Sergeant Jeremie Landry has announced he’s been promoted to a District Operations position that will see him posted to St. Paul. Landry had taken over as boss at the Cold Lake detachment three years ago. He calls the move bittersweet.
“I had a wonderful time [in Cold Lake] for many reasons. Number one, it’s an excellent community, lots of support for the police. It has great citizens. I also worked with fabulous staff so I’m very fortunate to have had that experience.”
Landry lists his highlights as leader of the detachment as helping to curb drug-related crimes in the city as well as the start of the police dog service. He says the ability to catch a suspect with a police dog has played a part in the crime rate in the area dropping by 30 percent this year.
“[The police dog service] has had a considerable positive impact on the Cold Lake detachment and the region and also the entire district.”
The new commander of Cold Lake is a familiar name. Staff Sergeant Scott Buchanan will become acting commander of the detachment on October 29th. Buchanan had served as commander of the detachment previously until Landry took over in 2015
