Charity hockey tournament making plans for 2019

A hockey tournament that supports families with sick children is working on its 2019 edition. The Winterland Invitational is put on by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northern Alberta. The event sees atom and novice hockey teams travel to Bonnyville and Glendon and Elk Point for a round-robin tournament. Funds are raised at the games which help support the charity and the Lakeland residents that use it.

Officials from the charity have reached out to local government to help put on the 2019 tournament. The M.D council announced on October 11th it will be donating around $8,000 to help cover the cost of ice rental. Bonnyville town council has also heard from the charity. They will decide how much money to give at their budget meetings in the next few months.

Last year, the tournament saw 24 teams play and around $80,000 raised. More information on the tournament can be found at the Ronald Mcdonald House website.
