Wings add Czech-born defenceman as season begins

The Cold Lake Wings are adding international talent to their blue-line. the Western Provinces Hockey Association club has signed Czech Republic-born defenceman Pavel Simak. the ’99- born defenceman has been playing in his home countries developmental leagues. Last year he got a taste of North American hockey playing 11 games in the Western States Premier Hockey League.

Head Coach Johnathan Aitken says the pick-up will turn some heads.

“He is highly capable of moving the puck and is a physical presence in the defensive zone. I think it will be exciting for our fans to see a player who developed under a European hockey system.”

The Wings are opening up their inaugural season on Friday in Edson against the Aeros. The first home action for the club comes on October 19th against the Meadow Lake Mustangs.
