Wings coach ready to work as first season begins

The coach of the Cold Lake Wings of the Western Provinces Hockey Association says he’s ready to put in the work. Jonathan Aitken and his Wings took to the Imperial Oil Place ice for the first time on September 28th.

“We just wanted to see how the kids would react. We put them in a game situation and we’ll see where we are for a baseline of ‘Hockey I.Q’.”

The Wings were handed an 11 to 1 loss on Friday in front of around 396 fans. The Hinton Wildcats would be their next challenge on Sunday. The Wings would keep up but come up short in the end, losing 7-4.

Aitken says he wants to see this team grow and improve from their first few exhibition games.

“Coming out and making sure if we give a 60-minute effort, we give ourselves a chance to compete and to win the game at the end of it.”
