H1N1 makes it’s seasonal debut

H1N1 influenza has claimed its first victim this season in Alberta, and Dr. Gerry Predy Alberta’s senior medical officer of health says the number of confirmed influenza cases in the Edmonton doubled to 125 in the last week.

Predy added that while the number of infections  and the death, are not unusual, but what is unusual us the number of people who have been seriously ill.

Predy is encouraging people to get a vaccination, and says this H1N1 strain has been around for about five years and hits people in their 30s, 40s and 50s harder than seniors, who are usually the ones getting very ill with other strains.
