Region two shake-up as Metis nation releases unofficial results

The Metis Nation of Alberta has voted for change in Region Two. The group has released unofficial results of the 2018 election held on Tuesday. Former Vice President Duane Zaraska has been elected President, beating out incumbent Karen Collins. Zaraska was previously a federal NDP candidate in the 2015 election. The polls say he received 212 votes compared to Collins’ 145.

The race to fill the vacant Vice-President seat saw voters pick Andrea Sandmaier as their choice. Sandmaier picked up 230 votes across Region Two. Her opponent Karman Fayant saw 124 votes.

As for Provincial President, Region 2 went with incumbent Audrey Poitras over Ron Quintal. Official results and announcements are expected to be released in the next few days.
