Fourth year of Hungry for the Homeless

A high school in the Lakeland is hoping you’ll stop by Thursday with some foodbank donations. Ecole Notre Dame is hosting its fourth year of ” Hungry for the Homeless”. The school is hoping to raise donations of both money and food for the local food bank inside the Friendship Centre.

Teacher Siobhan Winterhalt says the original idea was to help out in Edmonton.

“We used to go to Edmonton for it but we talked to the parents and the students and they said ‘Well, we have a need in our community. Can we do something here?'”

This years version will have students at the Sylvestre’s Source for Sports in Bonnyville accepting donations. The students will be at the store from about 4 until 8 pm. Winterhalt says the friendship centre has been looking for a few certain donations.

“Canned tuna. The proteins seem to be hard to get. also things like peanut butter and jam. Things we don’t often think of. I know there is also a need for baby formula.”

Winterhalt encourages people to drop by and stay hi to encourage the students. She says if people can’t make it out Thursday, the school will be accepting donations all next week.
