Pontiacs announce captain for 2018/19 AJHL season

With just days to go before they begin their season the Bonnyville Pontiacs have announced who will wear the “C” this year. 20-year-old Grayson Constable has been chosen as the new captain. The six-foot-two-inch centre from Lethbridge joined the club after parts of two AJHL seasons with the Drumheller Dragons and Okotoks Oilers.

Head Coach Rick Swan says Constable is best described as a “culture enhancer.”

“He’s just an exceptional human being. He’s a guy who takes the initiative and makes life better for those around him.”

Joining Constable is six alternate captains this year. Some names are recognizable such as returning centre Lucas Thorne. Others are new to the club like defenceman Sean Thomson. Thomson picked up two goals and 14 points last season playing for the Grande Prairie Storm.

The Pontiacs begin the season on the road on Friday with a game against the Whitecourt Wolverines. Coach Swan says a bumpy training camp that saw the club work out in Frog Lake means this club is ready to work.

“I know that we’ve got a long way to go but I feel optimistic saying we plan on going a long way. We have a team built to go a long way.”

The Pontiacs home opener is September 21st against the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
