Metis nation prepares for election

The Metis Nation of Alberta is preparing to head to the polls for their 2018 election. Region 2 in the Lakeland will get the opportunity to pick both provincial and regional presidents and vice-presidents on September 18th. Karen Collins is the current president of Region 2. She says to make sure you’re set to vote to avoid confusion at the polling stops.

“When it comes to voting you have to be registered with the Metis Nation of Alberta ID department and you have to have your Metis ID card.”

Advance polling was conducted in Bonnyville in August. The regular polls will open at 8 am. Collins says Metis nation members have a variety of polling stations they can hit around the Lakeland.

“In Bonnyville, it will be at the Senior’s Drop-In Centre. Throughout our region, we’ll have polls in Cold Lake, St. Paul, Elk Point, Lloydminster and Vegreville.”
