Vermillion crime spree ends in charges

Early in the morning of Christmas eve the Vermilion RCMP had to deal with a serious crime spree.

Police were called to a home invasion in progress, near Dewberry.  Police say that two men entered a residence where they were confronted by the home owner.  A violent altercation ensued and the homeowner subdued one of his attackers while the other one fled.

At the same time a stolen vehicle was located nearby and police arrested a woman, and three youths.

It turns out that the crimes were connected as the group was responsible for a series of crimes throughout the region starting with an attempted car jacking in Cold Lake which failed but their second attempt worked as they physically forced several elderly ladies from their vehicle.

The crime spree culminated with the home invasion and the subsequent arrest of the majority of those involved.

Now facing charges are Andy Lacombe 18, Reena Moyah 18, Tasheena Youngchief 21, and three youths aged 16, 15 and 14 and a warrant has been issued for 27 year old Myles Deschamps. A 12 year old, who was released, remains under investigation.

The four hour spree spanned over 300 kilometres, and resulted in 89 charges.
