A Labour Day weekend outing turned tragic for a family near Lac La Biche. Mounties are saying on September 1st they received a call to the Poplar Point resort. Two children had gone missing after a storm moved in while they were canoeing.
Police and Wildlife officers say the responded and started searching for the two youths. A 13-year-old was found unhurt and taken to hospital. An 8-year-old was also found unresponsive. Emergency crews performed CPR and the child was taken to Lac La Biche hospital. The child was pronounced dead in hospital.
The names of the victim will not be released. Lac La Biche RCMP Victim Services is providing assistance to family and friends.
