New Gymnastics Gymnasium Planned for Energy Centre

The Third Phase of the Energy Centre will include a new Gymnastics area. With nearly 400 kids involved in gymnastics in Cold Lake a new gymnasium is much-needed for the city.

Cold Lake’s Deputy Mayor Vicky Lefebvre says plans for this in phase three of the energy centre is underway, “we have a very young demographic, we try and ensure we have something for everybody.” A building that could house the Gymnastic Club was lacking in Cold Lake, so naturally that was one of the first suggestions for the expansion of The Energy Centre. Lefebvre says there are plans in the works for the designers to speak with the Gymnastics Club so they can go over specifics as to what will be needed, which will help move along other projects for The Energy Centre. “Once we get them (the designers) speaking with the Gymnastic Centre etc we can plan better.”

Lefebvre says The City has already looked at a second arena for the complex and a leisure skating area, “there’s a little skating area on the side for families or people with small children.” Lefebvre explains the need, “it’s so they don’t have to be on the ice in the big arena or with the rest of them (public skaters).”

The City is meeting with designers and hoping to finalize details by the end of the summer. Lefebvre says it will be approximately 18 months after the design phase before the expansion of The Energy Centre is complete.
