Cold Lake Ice begin hunt for fifth championship

The Cold Lake Ice are starting training camp with a new look and new mindset. The North East Alberta Junior B Hockey League team is heading into its 18th season after announcing a new logo and colours. Head Coach Scott Hood says the new look helps celebrate the direction the franchise is headed.

“We took over a team that was not really in shambles but there was some stuff that had happened. We’d incurred some debt. We’ve cleared that debt up and we figured we should get some new jerseys.”

The response to the new look has been positive from fans on social media. Hood hopes the new look will help the boys come together as a team when they hit the ground running at their main camp starting in two weeks.

“We start September 7th-9th. We have four skates in three days. We get a look at the new recruits and also get a chance to get our guys back into shape.”

Hood says he’s especially excited for the opening game on September 28th against the St. Paul Canadiens in St. Paul. The Ice and Canadians had a hard-fought seven-game series in the playoffs that should make for an interesting first game back from break. The Ice first home game will see them host the Vegreville Rangers on September 29th.
