Glendon derby ready to smash and crash this weekend

The Glendon Derby and Mudbogs are revved up and ready to smash this weekend. The village’s annual demolition derby and mudding competition is back for its 29th addition on August 11th. Earlier in the year, dwindling volunteer support and costs had the future of the Pyrohy-capital feature in doubt. Glendon Ag Society President Stacey Sandmeyer says some local help has made sure it won’t be going away anytime soon.

“We did have a lot of local people that were adamant and passionate about the derby. They decided to come to more meetings and help out a lot more.”

A pancake breakfast, parade, barbecue and more will accent the demolition derby and mudbog competition throughout the day. Sandmeyer says a Calcutta auction will give those who bid a chance to take home some cash from their favourite driver.

“You get to bid to win your driver. You get to share in the pool of money if your driver wins.”

Tickets are available right at the gate. A new family pass can get two adults and up to four children in on a discounted price. More information and updates throughout the event can be found at the Glendon Ag Society Facebook page.

Sandmeyer says anyone who’s never been or has been curious about the event is more than welcome.

“Make us part of your summer activity. Come on out to the Glendon Derby.”
