More details released after death of man in St. Paul

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is releasing more details as it investigates the death of a man in St. Paul after an altercation with police. Investigators are saying that on July 31st police officer from St. Paul detachment responded to a call from a local hotel. Witnesses say a man had been damaging cars in the parking lot as well as breaking three windows in the hotel itself.

Two RCMP officers say they arrived to find the man barricaded in a small storage room. At some point, mounties say the man left the room and confronted police. It was during this confrontation where police say a struggle took place.

Police then say the man became unresponsive and began CPR efforts to revive him. Emergency Medical Services arrived shortly and continued working on the man. Investigators say EMS was unable to revive him.

One police officer was treated at hospital for a minor injury and later released. Asirt says it’s looking into the conduct of the officers to determine if it was lawful.
